What's left behind the scenes

  • Lenny McLean (Barry the Baptist) was a professional boxer (without gloves) before becoming an actor. The film was dedicated to him after news of the actor’s death from cancer arrived a month before the premiere.
  • Vinnie Jones went straight from the police station to his first day of filming. He had been arrested for assaulting his neighbor.
  • Guy Ritchie couldn't decide on the ending of his film, so he had to shoot it several times. This is why Tom's head is covered with a headdress. By the time the shooting process seemed to be finally completed, the actor had grown his hair and refused to cut it.
  • Before meeting Guy Ritchie, Jason Statham worked as a street vendor. He had to play himself in his former role at the very beginning of the film.
  • A short film titled "The Hard Case" is a 20-minute film that serves as a prequel to "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels."
  • The creation of this film is closely associated with Trudy Styler, Sting's wife. She saw the short film and took a chance by investing money in the project of a promising director.
  • There are 19 corpses in the film.
  • The man who is dunked headfirst into the barrel by Barry “the Baptist” at the beginning of the film is played by cinematographer Tim Maurice-Jones.
  • The football match commentary watched by Rory in the pub mentions director and screenwriter Guy Ritchie and producer Matthew Vaughn as players.
  • The original title is a play on words, as it contains the old English idiom "lock, stock and barrel," which corresponds to our "the whole shebang."
  • Big Chris was modeled after real racketeer Dave Courtney.
  • The word "fuck" is uttered 125 times in the film.
  • The director's cut of the film has a runtime of 115 minutes.
  • The role of “Big Chris” was Vinnie Jones's acting debut; he was previously a professional football player who played at the highest level in England.
  • The scene in which Nick “Bubble” breaks a glass over the table was not in the original script. This incident happened directly during filming, and Guy Ritchie decided to include it in the final version of the film, making minor changes to the script.
  • The antique weapons catalog that appears at the end of the film is called "Botherby's" – a parody of the real "Sotheby's" in England.
  • The machine gun brought by one of the robbers during the heist and fired by the “spaced-out” Gloria is an English Bren light machine gun, a modification of the Czechoslovak ZB-26 machine gun.
  • Filming began on November 17, 1997.
