What's left behind the scenes

  • Fran Rubel Kuzui, the director of the film, is also one of the producers of the television series of the same name, which filmed 7 seasons.
  • Initially, Alice Milano was planned to play the role of Buffy.
  • 18-year-old Ben Affleck, a future Hollywood star, made his first appearance in a small cameo role as a basketball player.
  • The main filming of the film took place in Los Angeles.
  • The film was significantly cut in German distribution to lower the rating to “under 12”. Meanwhile, in the UK, no scenes were cut from the distribution, and it received a rating of “under 12”, while the VHS release of the film received a rating of “under 15” and 15 seconds were cut.
  • The relationship between Joss Whedon and Donald Sutherland didn't work out from the start – the actor changed the character's lines at his discretion, and although Whedon appreciated him as an actor, he called Sutherland a "bastard".
  • In the original script, Merrick committed suicide to prevent Lotus from turning him into a vampire, in an attempt to find out who the current vampire slayer was.
  • Joss Whedon was so upset by the fact that his script was almost completely changed that one day during filming he left the set and never returned to work on the project.
  • The film marked Hilary Swank's debut.
  • The initial version of the film's script, written by Joss Whedon, was realized as the comic book "Buffy – The Vampire Slayer: The Origin".
  • Paul Rubens completely improvised the scene of his death.
  • The relationship between Joss Whedon and Donald Sutherland did not start well – the actor changed the character's lines at his discretion, and although Whedon appreciated him as an actor, he called Sutherland a "goat."
