What's left behind the scenes

  • For 24 years, from fall 1982 to fall 2006, “Porky’s” was the highest-grossing film in the history of Canadian box office. Its total gross was 11.2 million Canadian dollars. This record was surpassed only in October 2006 by the crime comedy “Bon Cop, Bad Cop” (2006).
  • "Porgy" was the first film to gross over one million pounds in Ireland. Initially, it was banned from distribution. Permission was obtained only after an appeal against the initial decision of the cultural authorities.
  • Director and screenwriter Bob Clark collected material for the film for at least fifteen years. It included stories and events that happened to the guys of his generation in various places, as well as his own memories from when he was a high school and college student in Florida. Many of the characters were based on his friends from that period, or classmates from school or college.
