- Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner reluctantly agreed to participate in the sequel. At the pre-production stage, the actress even tried to withdraw from the project, but due to the threat of a lawsuit from the studio and $25 million in financial penalties, she was forced to stay.
- Two weeks before filming began, production designer Richard Docking and production manager Brian Coates died in a plane crash in Morocco while scouting locations for the film crew.
- A novelization of the film was released in the United States under the name of Joanne Wilder.
