What's left behind the scenes

  • The film marked Federico Álvarez’s feature film debut. For the director, the project was a childhood dream come true. He was given complete freedom and allowed to film as he saw fit.
  • To maintain the classic atmosphere of 1981, Alvarez attempted to use mostly practical effects, refraining from computer graphics whenever possible.
  • Alvarez impressed the producers with his approach to filming and his love for various effects. The director was convinced that through unusual camera angles and unconventional camera movement, he could achieve the desired intensity and authenticity.
  • To film scenes with heroes possessed by demons, the director invited a professional choreographer. They helped the actors move as realistically as possible.
  • Elizabeth Blackmore, playing the role of Natalie, was the first to audition for the part.
  • Two identical cabins were built for filming the movie. The first cabin was built in a real forest. An exact replica was constructed in a studio, as the complex prosthetic makeup could not be filmed on location.
  • For one of the heroines, a team of special effects makeup artists prepared five different prosthetic hands, demonstrating the various stages of her transformation.
  • According to physical effects supervisor Jason Dury, approximately 25,000 liters of fake blood and about 300 liters of vomit were used during the filming of the movie.
  • Initially, the role of Mia was to be played by Lily Collins, but she dropped out of the project due to a scheduling conflict. Rumors circulated that the temperamental actress simply didn't want to tarnish her filmography with the role of a drug addict.
  • Gillian Jacobs auditioned for the role of Mia, but lost out to Lily Collins. Later, Collins left the project, and the role eventually went to Jane Levy.
  • Agnes Bruckner and Thora Birch auditioned for the role of Natalie.
  • Jurnee Smollett auditioned for the role of Olivia.
  • If you take the first letters of the main characters' names, you get the word "demon": David, Eric, Mia, Olivia, and Natalie.
  • In one scene, cards are shown laid out on a table. They are arranged in the same order as in the original film "The Evil Dead" (1981).
  • In the scene where the broken necklace is found near the cabin, you can notice that it is arranged in the shape of a skull.
  • In the scene where David gives Mia the necklace, you can notice they are sitting on Ash's car from the original film series.
  • The film marked Fede Álvarez's feature film debut. For the director, the project was a childhood dream come true. He was given unlimited freedom and allowed to film as he saw fit.
