- Miranda Richardson was considered for the lead female role.
- Glenn Close still keeps the knife from this film.
- Over 20 directors declined the offer to film this movie.
- When agent Glenn Close first called the future film's creators to say she was interested in playing Alex, she was asked to tell the actress that she was completely unsuitable for the role. Director Adrian Lyne shared the same opinion.
- During the reshooting of the finale, Glenn Close was concussed in one of the takes. At the hospital, where the actress was urgently taken, she found out she had been pregnant for several weeks. On April 26, 1988, she gave birth to a daughter – future actress Annie Stark.
- The original finale showed Alex, dressed all in white, committing suicide, while Dana was arrested. The finale had to be changed after preview screenings and was reshot in July 1987.
