- Kathryn Isabelle plays Gale Prescott, which is a reference to Wes Craven's horror film "Scream" (1996), which featured the characters Sidney Prescott (played by Neve Campbell) and Gale Weathers, played by Courteney Cox.
- The surname Carrouthers was given to Winnie, the main character of this film, played by Jane Widdup, and it coincides with the surname Rachel from Dwight H. Little's horror film "Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers" (1988), where she was played by Ellie Cornell.
- Zenia Marshall, who played Darla, initially auditioned for the role of Bernie, which ultimately went to Jessica McLeod.
- Bernie Simon is based on one of screenwriter Michael Kennedy's longtime acquaintances.
- The killer's white suit is a reference to the costume the killer was supposed to wear in Wes Craven's original "Scream" (1996). It was later changed to black.
