What's left behind the scenes

  • According to director Mark L. Lester, he was inspired to create this film by real cases of school violence he read about in the press. In particular, the story of a teacher who came to school with firearms and used them against students.
  • Initially, Michael J. Fox was credited as Michael Fox due to problems with registration in the Screen Actors Guild.
  • The punks shown in the film were invited from the street. Filming the scene with their participation resulted in trouble, and some members of the film crew were injured.
  • After watching the finished film, one of the scriptwriters, Barry Schneider, asked to have his name removed from the credits due to the prevalence of violent scenes on screen.
  • In the scene where laboratory animals are found dead, real dead animals were used. The room where they were placed smelled so bad that many of the actors and actresses involved in the film felt sick.
