What's left behind the scenes
- Initially, Tamara Davis was slated to direct and work from a script written by Yolanda Turner and Becky Johnston. However, after a few weeks, the studio decided they disliked the direction the film was taking and halted production. Jonathan Kaplan replaced Davis as director, the script was rewritten, and the four actresses cast in the lead roles were sent to learn how to shoot, lasso, and ride horses.
- In one episode, agents of the Pinkerton Detective Agency state they are searching for a fugitive from Colorado. Colorado gained statehood in 1876, approximately 15 years before the events depicted in the film.
- James LeGros and Madeleine Stowe would later star together again in the series "Revenge" (2011-2015).
- There is no blood on Cody’s face, as played by Madeleine Stowe, when she enters the hero’s shelter near the end of the film, but when she comes face to face with him, her face is smeared with blood.
