What's left behind the scenes

  • Director and screenwriter Tom Gormican offered Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal roles in this film while working with them on the crime comedy “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” (2022). Pascal liked the script but had to decline the offer due to commitments to other projects. Cage decided the film would be too similar to “The Unbearable Weight…”, and also refused. Gormican cast Paul Rudd and repeated the offer to Cage. The actor requested that his character be made more like John Voight’s hero in Luis Llosa’s action film “Anaconda” (1997). The studio refused to accommodate him, and the role went to Jack Black.
  • While preparing for filming, director Tom Gormican and screenwriter Kevin Etten rewatched all the films in the “Anaconda” franchise, including the television movies. The original script contained references to the 2004 adventure action film “Anaconda 2: The Hunt for the Smaragdine Orb” (Dwight H. Little), but they were later removed.
  • The location where the finale was supposed to be filmed became unavailable, so the ending had to be changed. Even Ice Cube’s cameo was reworked. Another location was found and prepared, but a devastating hurricane struck, ruining all the preparations, and the set had to be rebuilt from scratch.
  • Initially, John Voight and Owen Wilson from the cast of Luis Llosa’s “Anaconda” (1997) were supposed to participate in the project, but this idea was abandoned – according to Tom Gormican, mainly because their characters died in the first film. Other characters from the first film appeared on screen because this reboot was a sequel to the fictional film mentioned in the plot. In any case, Voight’s character in the 2025 film is simply mentioned.
