What's left behind the scenes

  • John Hughes (1950-2009) shot this film concurrently with two other movies – "Planes, Trains & Automobiles" (1987) and "Uncle Buck" (1988). Actors who appeared in those two comedies make cameo appearances at the end of the film.
  • John Travolta was considered for the role of Jake, but the studio disapproved of the idea.
  • At the beginning of "Planes, Trains & Automobiles" (1987), Steve Martin’s character races to a taxi with Kevin Bacon’s character. Later (around the 22nd minute), there’s a scene where Martin’s character’s wife is lying in bed watching television. In the background, sounds of an argument can be heard from the show she’s watching (also directed by Hughes). It's the argument between Bacon’s and Elizabeth McGovern’s characters, where she yells about disliking his friend’s girlfriend.
