What's left behind the scenes
- To avoid information leaks and keep the project secret, the film was known by the working title Seashore («The Beach») during filming.
- Philip Seymour Hoffman, who played Plutarch Heavensbee, tragically died a week before filming ended. Since most of his scenes for the two final films had already been shot, they decided not to recast the role and finished working on it by making some changes to the script.
- Julianne Moore said she was persuaded to take on the role of Alma Coin by her own children, who really like the original novel.
- Jodie Foster was considered for the role of Alma Coin.
- The first film in the series to be shot digitally.
- Natalie Dormer actually shaved half of her head for the role of Cressida. She originally intended to shave her entire head, but director Francis Lawrence convinced her not to.
- This is the first film in the series not released in IMAX.
- Liam Hemsworth suffered an ankle injury during filming.
- In addition to a wig, Julianne Moore also wore dark contact lenses for her role.
- Jennifer Lawrence did not have long enough hair, so she had to wear a wig.
- During the filming of a scene in the sewer pipes, Jennifer Lawrence experienced a choking fit due to dry ice used as smoke in the scene.
- Although the character of Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) appears only briefly at the end of the novel, her role was expanded in the film.
- Director Francis Lawrence filmed both parts of "Mockingjay" one after the other, resulting in 152 days of shooting. They started in September 2013 and took place in 10 soundstages near Atlanta, as well as in Paris and Berlin, and finished in June 2014.
- The length of one of the underground tunnels where the film takes place is 5 km.
