What's left behind the scenes
- Initially, it was planned to introduce a character named SoVsekhNog when he hanged himself upon Igor's return to the castle at the very beginning of the film. This plot point was removed from the film itself and remained only in the novelization.
- The first computer-animated film by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
- The characters Jacqueline and Heidi are a reference to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde from Robert Louis Stevenson's Gothic novel (1850-1894) "Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" (1886).
- "Schadenfreude" from German translates as malicious joy.
