What's left behind the scenes

  • Angelina Jolie repeatedly declined the role of Gia, stating that Gia's life was too similar to her own.
  • An alternative version of the film has been released on video, retaining the explicit sex scenes between Gia and her lover Linda.
  • At the age of seventeen, Gia worked behind the counter at her father's bistro.
  • Gia Carangi was an American fashion model of the late 1970s and early 1980s.
  • At the 33rd minute of the film, a photograph of the real Gia Carangi can be seen. The editor of Vogue magazine is reviewing photos of models in search of a new cover, offering ruthless commentary. When Gia's image appears, she says: 'Boring'.
  • Towards the end of the film, when Gia is trying to buy drugs, the dealer calls her Angel.
  • In the film, Gia and another model see a 1997 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, although the film is set in 1985.
  • At the 46th minute, when Gia kicks her mother out of the apartment, as the mother approaches the elevator, she throws a green suitcase to the right, a coat and bags to the left, and two seconds later, the green suitcase is neatly positioned to the left, while the mother holds the bags and coat in her hands.
