What's left behind the scenes

  • Sam Worthington was considered for the role of Duke.
  • David Murray was originally intended to play Destro.
  • Skip Woods wrote an early version of the script featuring Alex Mann and his wife Scarlett. Ryan was supposed to be the main villain.
  • Lorenzo di Bonaventura initially wanted Mark Wahlberg to play Duke.
  • Common was offered the role of Roadblock, Heavy Duty's cousin. He declined. Later, the roles of Heavy Duty and his cousin were rewritten, merging them into one character.
  • To prepare for the role of the Baroness, Sienna Miller trained intensely for four months, gaining five pounds (about two kilograms) of muscle mass.
  • All scenes featuring Dennis Quaid were filmed in the first two months of shooting.
  • In 2003, Don Murphy was supposed to be the producer of the film, but he reached an agreement with 'Hasbro Company' to produce 'Transformers' (2007).
  • Larry Hama, the creator of 'G.I. Joe' (1984), was hired as a consultant.
  • Initially, Channing Tatum declined the offer to star in the film because he believed it glorified war. However, after reading the script, he changed his mind, as he saw the film more as a fantastical action thriller rather than a war movie.
  • Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, friends in real life, played sworn enemies—Duke and Cobra Commander.
  • Ray Park, who played Snake Eyes, trained in wushu and studied the character through numerous G.I. Joe comics and television series in preparation for the role.
  • Action scenes set on the streets of Paris were filmed in Prague.
  • Dennis Quaid agreed to play General Hawk at the insistence of his son, who is a big fan of G.I. Joe.
  • Rachel Nichols was the producers' initial choice for the role of Scarlett O'Hara.
  • The filmmakers enjoyed working with Dennis Quaid so much that they specifically added about 10-15 scenes to the film for him.
  • The design of the Cobra Commander's mask was significantly altered because the 1985 version too closely resembled the masks of the Ku Klux Klan.
  • Joseph Gordon-Levitt partially tried to replicate the speech and voice of his character from Chris Latta in "G.I. Joe" (1984), but for the most part he used his imagination in creating the character.
  • Filming lasted 82 days instead of the planned 95 days.
  • The film was shot almost without a script, and the director had to come up with everything on the fly due to the tight deadlines the studio allocated for filming.
  • The set for filming the pulse cannon based on the Cobra was as tall as a five-story building.
  • Stephen Sommers wrote a script for a film about acceleration suits 20 years ago, but no one bought it at the time. He was able to realize his idea in "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra".
  • In 2003, Don Murphy was supposed to produce a film, but he reached an agreement with Hasbro to produce Transformers (2007).
  • Larry Hama, the creator of G.I. Joe (1984), was hired as a consultant.
  • Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, friends in real life, played sworn enemies – Duke and Cobra Commander.
  • Rachel Nichols was the producers' initial choice for the role of Scarlett O'Hara.
  • Joseph Gordon-Levitt tried to replicate the speech mannerisms and voice of Chris Latta from G.I. Joe (1984) for his character, but mostly he used his imagination in creating the character.
  • Stephen Sommers wrote a screenplay for a film about power suits 20 years ago, but no one bought it at the time. He was able to realize his idea in "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra".
