What's left behind the scenes
- Barbara Hershey's character develops viral cardiomyopathy. This disease is caused by Coxsackie B virus, which weakens the heart muscle and reduces its ability to pump enough blood. The disease was incurable at the time the film was made, as depicted on screen. However, after 2005, treatment with beta-blockers and implantable defibrillators became – quite successfully – available.
- Mayim Bialik did not sing on camera. Bette Midler requested that a girl with a voice similar to her own sing in the film.
- Barbara Hershey appeared younger in the film thanks to cosmetic surgery. In reality, the actress was 40 years old.
- The heroine played by Barbara Hershey develops viral cardiomyopathy.
