What's left behind the scenes

  • The prototype for the main character is Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar (1045–1099), a participant in the Reconquista, a national hero of Spain.
  • The film was shot in Spain, specifically in the historic town of Ampudia in the province of Palencia and the Torrelobatón castle in the province of Valladolid, in the autonomous community of Castile and León, at the Templar fortress of Peñíscola near Valencia, in Portugal at Belmonte Castle, and also at Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland (Great Britain).
  • A stuntman (flag bearer) during the Battle of Valencia, after falling from a horse, turns his "back" to the viewer. Worn jeans are clearly visible.
