What's left behind the scenes

  • Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur was invited to direct, but he declined, citing a lack of creative freedom when working on established franchises.
  • The film was announced even before the release of the 6th installment.
  • Filming took place in Colorado, where a record amount of rainfall fell after two days of shooting, forcing a temporary halt to work on the film.
  • "Fast & Furious 7" is Tony Jaa's Hollywood debut.
  • Paul Walker, who played Brian O'Conner, died in a car accident on November 30, 2013, in Santa Clarita, California. Due to this tragedy, the film's premiere was postponed to April 2015.
  • After Paul Walker's death, his brothers Caleb Walker and Cody Walker agreed to help film the remaining scenes involving his character. They also participated in the voiceover for these scenes.
  • Universal Studios was looking for a well-known actor for a supporting role in this film that would become a more important role in the next film in the series. Denzel Washington was offered the role, but he declined. Ultimately, the role went to Kurt Russell.
  • Dwayne Johnson's participation in this film was long in doubt because Universal Studios was trying to speed up the film's production as much as possible, and Johnson was unable to start work on the project due to his commitment to the film 'Hercules' (2014). However, production of 'Hercules' (2014) was completed just in time for the actor to have enough time to film one of the leading roles in 'Furious 7' (2015).
  • The studio wanted to film 'Furious 7' (2015) as quickly as possible and release it in theaters as early as summer 2014. Director Justin Lin would have had to begin preparing to shoot the seventh installment simultaneously with the post-production of 'Fast & Furious 6' (2013). He believed that such haste could significantly affect the quality of the final product, and therefore declined the position of director for the seventh film.
  • Taylor Lautner and Halle Berry could have starred in the film.
  • The first film in the franchise to be shot in Canada.
  • Jason Statham was initially offered the role of the main antagonist, Owen Shaw, in 'Fast & Furious 6' (2013), but due to his commitment to 'Parker' (2012) and 'Wild Card' (2014), the actor had to decline.
  • Scenes with Jordana Brewster were filmed last, due to her commitments to the 'Dallas' (2012-2014) series. According to the actress, filming was difficult for her, as most of her scenes were with Brian, and by the time they began filming, Paul Walker had already passed away and two of his brothers were performing his role on set.
  • The first film in the franchise released in 3D format.
  • According to director James Wan, the title "Furious 7" is a reference to the story of the Seven Samurai.
  • Most of the film was shot using a Red Epic camera.
  • The Lykan HyperSport, featured in the scenes set in the Arab world, is a Lebanese car from W Motors – the first supercar produced in the Middle East. Only 7 were ever made, and each car costs $3.4 million, partly because of its headlights inlaid with precious stones.
  • The Azerbaijani scenes of the film were shot in Colorado and Arizona.
  • Singer Iggy Azalea received a cameo role in the film – her character has only 2 lines, but the singer admits that preparation and rehearsals took around 16 hours.
  • Jason Statham and Tyrese Gibson previously starred together in the film "Death Race", which also focuses on car racing.
  • The name of the hospital where Hobbs is recovering is the same as the hospital in the TV series "Scrubs" (2001-2010) – "Sacred Heart Hospital".
  • In the scene where Dwayne Johnson is lying in a hospital bed, before he switches the television to the news, he is watching old footage of himself when he still played for the "Miami Hurricanes" team.
  • During the filming of the scene with cars parachuting from a plane, real cars were actually dropped from the plane, and then operators with cameras attached to their helmets parachuted after them to capture the cars' flight through the air, while other operators on the ground filmed the cars landing.
  • In the scene where Dwayne Johnson is lying in a hospital bed, medical equipment is connected to his chest, and it can be noticed that the wire on the left side of his chest changes position between shots.
  • At the beginning of the film, it is visible that there is only one person in the AAR 'Cuda. However, when the camera switches to the in-car view, Letty and Dominic are already there.
  • In the government garage, Brian's car is a Subaru WRX STi sedan. However, when they go to jump out of the plane, it turns into a hatchback.
  • In the scene where cars are dropped from the C-130 plane, it initially shows that the size of the cargo hold allows the cars to stand in two rows. But when the camera shows the exterior as Dominic's car is dropped, it is clear that it's a different plane, as only one car can fit through the cargo door in width.
  • When fighter jets take off to interfere with the helicopter firing at Dominic's team, it is visible that they are F-16s. However, they are displayed as F/A-18s on the helicopter's computer screen.
  • During the fight scene between Dominic and Shaw, a stunt double is visible instead of Vin Diesel. This is noticeable because he has darker skin.
  • When Brian opens the control panel for Ramsey to take control of the "Eye of God", it is visible that the panel's power is off, and it will not work without electricity.
  • During the chase scene of Dominic pursuing Shaw at the funeral, when the characters in their cars came face-to-face on the factory grounds, intending to collide head-on, it is visible that neither is wearing a seatbelt. They start and their cars crash into each other at high speed. Both cars are totaled, while the characters are without a scratch. In reality, an unrestrained person in such a crash would be ejected through the windshield, sustaining serious injuries.
  • When Dominic attempts to drive out of the collapsing building, a white car is briefly visible in his path, which is impossible to avoid in that situation, but in the following frames, Dominic continues to drive straight at high speed, without avoiding any car.
  • When Dwayne Johnson is hospitalized and his partner comes to see him, the doctor tells her that he has a fractured clavicle. But when Dwayne is shown, both of his clavicles are perfectly intact.
  • When Dominic's team freed Ramsey, she began to talk about everyone, and said about Brian that he was a former cop, as she saw him fight, although when Brian was fighting, she was either wearing a bag over her head or hanging on Dominic’s hood.
  • During the chase scene with Dom and Ramsey in the mountains, 12 criminal vehicles corner them on a cliff edge (0:57:46) from a left angle, then at (0:57:54) from a right angle, where there are already 13 cars and they are arranged differently. When the special services observe them from a satellite, there are only 11 vehicles on the monitor (0:58:33).
  • During the scene at the cemetery, Jason Statham's Maserati has tinted windows. However, all the tinting disappears before the collision with Dom. Furthermore, after the head-on collision, none of the front airbags in the Maserati deploy.
  • After Dom's house explodes, you can notice that the windows in the nearby houses are completely intact.
  • During the bus chase, when Brian was fighting the guard, before they accidentally shot the guard, Letty was following the bus in her car to pick up Brian. After the driver was killed and the bus lost control, there were no cars near the bus. However, they didn't show Letty turning anywhere.
  • When Mia tells Dom she is pregnant, she hints that Brian has 9 months to prepare for a new life, suggesting the pregnancy has just begun. Then Mia tells Brian they are having a girl, but Mia doesn't have a baby bump yet. As is known, the sex of the baby cannot be determined at such an early stage.
  • Due to the death of actor Paul Walker, filming took place in two stages: from September 28 to November 30, 2013, and from April 1 to July 10, 2014.
  • "Furious 7" marked Tony Jaa's Hollywood debut.
  • Dwayne Johnson's participation in the film was long in doubt, as Universal Studios tried to accelerate the production process as much as possible, while Johnson was unable to start work on the project due to his commitment to "Hercules" (2014). However, production of "Hercules" (2014) was completed just in time for the actor to have enough time to film one of the leading roles in "Furious 7" (2015).
