What's left behind the scenes
- Filming was initially planned to begin in the fall of 2013 and the film was scheduled for release on September 12, 2014, but the film's premiere was postponed to 2016 due to the pregnancy of Milla Jovovich, who played the lead role.
- It is claimed that after the release of the latest installment of the "Resident Evil" franchise, viewers will see a television series, work on which is already underway.
- Sienna Guillory, the actress who played Jill Valentine, wrote on "Twitter" that she had not been approached to appear in the latest installment of the franchise. Guillory then thanked all the fans who liked her in the role of Valentine for their support.
- Li Bingbing, the actress who played Ada Wong, was forced to leave the project even before filming began due to her involvement in filming a movie in China.
- Filming for the movie was completed on December 10, 2015, in the suburbs of Cape Town, South Africa.
- The film will be released five years after the premiere of the previous installment of the 'Resident Evil' franchise, however, the events in it take place immediately after the events depicted in Paul W.S. Anderson's 'Resident Evil: Retribution' (2012).
- Ali Larter confirmed in numerous interviews with IGN, CinemaBlend, and others, that this is indeed the last installment of the 'Resident Evil' franchise.
- Ricardo Cornelius was one of the crew members in South Africa. He was standing near a Humvee (American army vehicle) raised on a rotating platform. Apparently, the vehicle was poorly secured, as it slipped off the platform in the direction where Cornelius was standing, and he was pinned between the vehicle and the wall of a building. According to the website Deadline, Cornelius was immediately taken to the nearest hospital, where he was put on life support, but he died a few hours later. This was the second incident on the set and the first with a fatal outcome. During the filming of one of the stunts, stuntwoman Olivia Jackson lost control of a motorcycle and crashed into a heavy film camera, sustaining a serious head injury and falling into a coma. Olivia lost her arm as a result of the injury sustained during filming.
- By inserting an episode in the sewers into the film, its creators pay homage to 'Resident Evil 2,' a 1998 survival horror computer game from the 'Resident Evil' series.
- The character of Ali Larter (Claire Redfield) is equipped with an identical outfit to her in-game counterpart in the «Resident Evil: Revelations 2» series.
- The timer watch that Alice (Milla Jovovich) wears throughout the film is actually a Vivofit series fitness bracelet from Garmin.
- Dr. Isaacs, who died in Russell Mulcahy's «Resident Evil 3» (2007), will return to the franchise. This is another character present only in the films and unrelated to the games of the franchise. He first appeared in «Resident Evil: Apocalypse» (2004), replacing William Birkin as the project leader of «Nemesis».
- The Hummer that Alice (Milla Jovovich) drives expertly at the beginning of the film is painted with the identifying markings of the B.S.A.A. (Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance) organization. In the Resident Evil game universe, the B.S.A.A. organization was created to fight bioterrorism. Chris Redfield was one of its founders.
- Alice's laugh, which sounds after she is beaten by a group of «Umbrella» soldiers, is an improvisation by Milla Jovovich herself.
- To create a correct emotional response from Milla Jovovich in the final scene, genuine video recordings of director Paul W. S. Anderson and Jovovich's daughter, Ever Anderson, from the family archive are used as Alicia Marcus's childhood memories.
- When Alice drives an HMMWV at the 10-minute mark of the film, the truck lying on the road blocks approximately half of the road. When Alice turns around and prepares to ram the monster, the truck blocks either most of the road or completely blocks it during shot changes.
- At the 11th minute of the film, Alice blows up a car with an M18A1 "Claymore" anti-personnel mine, which she used to pin down a flying monster. This mine uses approximately 680 grams of C4 explosive, and most of the mine's mass and volume is occupied by fragmentation elements – such a mine cannot cause such a large explosion with a fireball.
- When Alice crawls out of the wrecked car at the 17th minute of the film, the sun is almost on the horizon. As she walks down the road, the sun is at its zenith. When Alice sees the standing motorcycle, evening falls again.
- At the 21st minute of the film, Dr. Isaacs shows a pull-out drawer containing the severed heads of Alice's clones. The far-right head is standing upright at this moment, then lies on its side after a change of frame, and is upright again when Isaacs closes the drawer.
- At the 25th minute of the film, Alice throws a guard off the right side of the armored personnel carrier, and he is grabbed by the zombies running alongside, although it was previously shown that all the zombies were running behind the armored personnel carrier.
- At the 44th minute of the film, Alice pours gasoline into the armored personnel carrier's hatch and sets it on fire. Flames burst from the armored personnel carrier, but in the next scene, the soldiers climbing out have no signs of burns.
- At the 44th minute of the film, when Alice fights a soldier on the roof of an armored vehicle, there are no zombies around, even though they continued to follow the armored vehicle. When Alice ties the defeated soldier to the armored vehicle in one of the following scenes, the zombies reappear.
- At the 73rd minute of the film, Alice enters the dirty laser corridor from the first film in the series, however, the control room at the end of the corridor is completely clean.
- At the 92nd minute of the film, Alice rushes to the surface to smash the vial with the antivirus, but Dr. Isaacs intercepts the vial in mid-air. It is unknown how he managed to recover so quickly from the grenade blast and overtake Alice, who ascended to the surface in an elevator.
- At the 98th minute of the film, the One World Trade Center skyscraper, construction of which began in 2004, is visible on the left side of the frame, however, the T-virus epidemic broke out in 2002.
