What's left behind the scenes

  • According to one article in the weekly magazine *New Yorker*, the filmmakers couldn't come up with a title for the film. Peter Cook (1937-1995) suggested naming it *Raquel Welch*, which greatly surprised the producers. Initially, they couldn't understand why they would name a film after an actress who appeared on screen for only a few minutes. Cook explained that because cinemas display the names of leading actors in large type for films being shown, the inscription would read: *Peter Cook and Dudley Moore – starring Raquel Welch*. The producers rejected the idea.
  • Raquel Welch appeared in practically all of the film's promotional materials, although she is on screen for approximately 7 minutes in the film itself.
  • At the time the film was released, blasphemy was considered a common law crime in the United Kingdom, so there were concerns that some religious groups would perceive the film as offensive. Director Stanley Donen (1924-2019) defended his creation as best he could. He even sought support from some religious authorities, and they confirmed his rightness. After that, all objections to the film's release were removed. By 2005, the definition of blasphemy in the United Kingdom had become less strict, and when censors were again asked to evaluate the film from a professional point of view, the only problem turned out to be scenes with Stanley's suicide attempts, but these problems were solved by simply changing the film's rating from 'PG' (parental guidance suggested) to '12' (suitable for children aged 12 and over).
