What's left behind the scenes

  • In 1969, the film was released in the USA with minor changes.
  • The very plot of the film was inspired by "Son of Kong" (1933), filmed 34 years earlier. The American film "Tarantula" (1955) also had a strong influence – the plot of "Son of Godzilla" has similar elements – the work of scientists that caused the emergence of a giant spider, which is the main antagonist of the film. The giant mantis Kamacuras was taken from "Deadly Mantis" (1957).
  • In the American version of the film, Kamacuras is named "Himantus" (Gimantis), and Kumonga is named "Spiega".
  • In Japan, 2,480,000 viewers watched the film in theaters.
  • Actor Haruo Nakajima, who portrayed Godzilla in some scenes, also appeared in the film "Escape from King Kong" (1967) that same year, where he played the role of King Kong.
  • In this film, Minilla eats a fruit thrown to him, despite his father – Godzilla – being a clear predator.
