What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on the graphic novels by Frank Miller, "A Dame to Kill For" and "Just Another Saturday Night".
  • During the seven-year gap between the release of the first film and the start of principal photography on the second, Brittany Murphy and Michael Clarke Duncan passed away, forcing Robert Rodriguez to find other actors for their roles. Due to Devon Aoki's pregnancy, Jamie Chung replaced her in the role of Miho. And Jeremy Piven was cast as Michael Madsen.
  • The lead role was initially offered to Johnny Depp, but he declined due to scheduling conflicts. Joseph Gordon-Levitt was later invited to take his place and agreed, despite offers from projects such as "Guardians of the Galaxy" (2014) and "Godzilla" (2014).
  • Salma Hayek, Rose McGowan, Angelina Jolie, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, Helena Bonham Carter, Scarlett Johansson, Anne Hathaway, and Jennifer Lawrence were considered for the role of Eva, but Eva Green ultimately landed the part.
  • Eva Green and Marton Csokas played a married couple. They were in a relationship in real life from 2005 to 2009.
  • A poster for the film featuring actress Eva Green was banned from distribution in the United States. According to censors from the Motion Picture Association of America, the naked woman on the poster looks "excessively sexual".
  • Initially, Joseph Gordon-Levitt did not approve of Lady Gaga's participation in the film. But after playing the first scene together, he was stunned by her theatrical talent. According to Joseph, she perfectly revealed all the traits of her character. Subsequently, the actors became good friends and collaborated repeatedly.
  • Robert Rodriguez insisted that the film be shot in 3D immediately, rather than converted to this format during post-production.
  • The entire film was shot against a green screen. The only props used on set were doorways, staircases, and basic items such as tables and chairs. Everything else was created using computer graphics. And to help the actors feel where they were, they were shown 3D models of these locations before filming.
  • In the scene where Marv is first shown in the bar, comic book author and director Frank Miller is sitting next to him. He also plays one of the characters in the film that Nancy watches on television.
  • Duayata McCarthy, who was played by Clive Owen in the film "Sin City" (2005), is now played by Josh Brolin. The plot reveals Brolin portrays McCarthy before his facial reconstruction surgery. Shelly (Brittany Murphy) mentioned this surgery in the first film.
  • At the 4-minute mark, where the man is being hanged after Marv deals with the second one and the camera pans away, the hanged man disappears.
  • A poster for the film featuring actress Eva Green was banned from distribution in the USA. According to censors from the Motion Picture Association of America, the nude woman on the poster looks "excessively sexual".
