- Director Scott Walker specifically postponed filming by 5 months in order to start shooting when there is no snow yet, and finish in the deep winter.
- Brie Larson auditioned for the role of Cindy. She acted with such intensity that she frightened the casting director.
- John Cusack was so tired of playing in romantic comedies that he gladly played serial killers in two films in a row – in Lee Daniels' drama "The Paperboy" (2012) and in this film.
