What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on the novel of the same name by British doctor and writer S.J. Watson.
  • In the book, the protagonist keeps a diary, which she uses to try to reconstruct past events. In the film, the notebook was replaced by a portable video camera, on which the protagonist, Nicole Kidman, records everything that happens to her today in order to remember it tomorrow.
  • S.J. Watson found the plot for his book in a newspaper. In the obituaries section, he read about the death of 86-year-old Henry Molaison, who developed amnesia at the age of 26. For 60 years, every morning Henry woke up and didn't remember who he was.
  • Claire tells Christine (while the latter is at home) that she can meet her at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich and will be there within the hour. Since Christine was picked up from home to go to Ascot District Hospital, it means she lives in Berkshire and it would not have been possible for her to reach the Royal Observatory, Greenwich in under an hour, as shown in the film.
