What's left behind the scenes
- Mila Kunis was unable to voice the role of Laurie because she was pregnant with Ashton Kutcher's child.
- Steven Collins had a cameo role in this film. However, after his confession to the sexual abuse of underage girls, scenes featuring him were removed.
- When Ted sings to prove he has a soul, he sings the same song that Brian Griffin sang in the 7th episode of the 4th season of the series "Family Guy" (1999) (Brian the Bachelor).
- The song Amanda Seyfried sings in the campfire scene was performed by the actress herself. This song was written specifically for the film, with lyrics created by Seth MacFarlane.
- The film's plot came to Seth MacFarlane after reading a series of novels by John Jakes about the Civil War, during the filming of "A Million Ways to Die in the West" (2014).

- Morgan Freeman’s character was named after Pat Meyan, a writer for the series "Family Guy" (1999).
