What's left behind the scenes
- At the 24-minute mark, before leaving the city, Debelzak says: “The distance is about 400 leagues. That’s no more than 6 days’ journey.” Given that one league is 3 miles (approximately 4800 meters), the group is facing about 320 kilometers of travel per day.
- Nicolas Cage agreed to star in this film because he saw it as a tribute to the films of director Roger Corman, which featured actors such as Sir Christopher Lee (1922-2015) and Vincent Price (1911-1993). An additional bonus for him was that Christopher Lee would also be starring in the film.
- Specifically for filming in this movie, Nicolas Cage learned to ride horseback.
- The film’s release was originally scheduled for March 2010, but it was postponed due to the results of test screenings. In September 2010, some scenes were reshot in Louisiana.
- To film the wolf chase scene with the main characters, the filmmakers turned to the renowned animal trainer Zoltan Horkai. Seven wolves participated in the filming, with each required to perform specific actions on screen.
