- In preparation for filming, director Ron Krauss lived at the 'Seven Springs' shelter, founded by Cathy Diflore, for over a year, and became close to both her and the two girls who served as the inspiration for Apple Bailey. Filming took place both at Diflore's home and at the shelter.
