What's left behind the scenes

  • The screenplay for "Bus Stop" was based on the eponymous play that was popular on Broadway in the 1950s. The production was shown on stage a total of 478 times, and in 1956 it was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play.
  • The original play "Bus Stop" was written by George Axelrod, and it's interesting to note that this wasn't the writer's first work to be adapted into a film starring Marilyn Monroe. In 1955, "The Seven Year Itch," also based on an Axelrod play of the same name, was released with Monroe in the lead role.
  • The role of Bo Decker was intended for Fess Parker, but the actor was under contract with Walt Disney Studios and was unable to participate in the filming.
  • The film "Bus Stop" marked the feature film debut of actress Hope Lange, who would later be nominated for an Academy Award for her role in "Peyton Place" (1957).
  • Filming of "Bus Stop" took place from February to May 1956.
