What's left behind the scenes

  • The director's cameo (at the 41st minute) – Hitchcock walks down the street after David and Jeff split up, leaving the house containing the Smiths' apartment.
  • While the actress for the lead female role was decided from the very beginning, choosing the actor for the lead male role proved difficult. Hitchcock and Lombard wanted to get Cary Grant, but they failed. They then began discussing almost all of Hollywood's leading actors remotely, choosing a suitable candidate. As a result (just a week before filming began), a contract was signed with Robert Montgomery.
  • Alfred Hitchcock (1899-1980) took on the filming of this movie at the request of actress Carole Lombard (1908-1942), who played Ann in the film. It was one of the few films for which Hitchcock did not contribute to the script himself. He simply didn't understand people of the type he was filming, so he worked solely from the script he was given.
