When Max imagined himself on a deserted island in the middle of the ocean, it took 2,400 teaspoons of lubricant to create the ocean.
The first animated film in history to open the national American Sundance Film Festival of independent cinema.
Screenwriter and director Adam Benjamin Elliot explained that the image of Max reflects his own pen pal from New York, with whom he maintained contact for over 20 years.
Philip Seymour Hoffman, who voiced Max, and Adam Benjamin Elliot never met face to face. Hoffman worked in London and recorded all his lines there.
