Stand In

What's left behind the scenes

  • The screenwriter, director, and producer Jason Reitman believed that since so much of the film’s plot depended on text messages, chats, and photos, they couldn’t simply limit themselves to blank screens. The filmmakers had to put in a lot of effort (and a significant portion of the filming budget) to create believable versions of popular websites with which the actors and actresses could interact in real time. According to Reitman, creating the digital world cost as much as building the real sets.
