- Reese Witherspoon was originally considered for the role of Jules, but she left the project, and the role ultimately went to Anne Hathaway.
- Before offering the role of Ben Whittaker to Robert De Niro, Nancy Meyers offered it to Jack Nicholson.
- Drena, Robert De Niro's foster daughter, plays the role of a hotel manager in the film.
