What's left behind the scenes
- Originally, Ewan McGregor was supposed to play the role of Eddie Dodson, and Carey Mulligan was to play his girlfriend, but after the project languished in development for several years, both actors left the project, and their roles were ultimately played by Jim Sturgess and Isabel Lucas.
- Eddie Dodson was a Hollywood playboy who robbed 64 banks from July 1983 to February 1984 — including six banks in a single day. After serving 10 years in prison, he was released and, a few months later, was offered a job as a servant to Jack Nicholson. Jack sent Eddie to rehab twice for drug addiction, but after a third relapse, Eddie ultimately lost his job. Two weeks later, Eddie was granted parole, and two weeks after that, he began robbing banks again. He robbed eight more banks (according to Eddie himself, he robbed nine, but the FBI claims there were eight) before being arrested again. This time he was sentenced to 46 months in prison. He served 40 months, was released in October 2002, and died in February 2003 from liver failure.
