What's left behind the scenes
- The initial cut of the film was 210 minutes long (3 and a half hours). Director Michael Mann agreed to reduce it to two hours, but the "Paramount" studio was dissatisfied with even that, reducing the final runtime to 96 minutes against his will.
- Filming this movie was very difficult and exhausting, and the shooting period stretched to as much as 22 weeks (instead of the originally planned 13).
- The film was originally scheduled for release on June 3, 1983, but the premiere was postponed for more than six months (to December 16) due to numerous creative and technical problems during production.
