What's left behind the scenes
- "Maurice," the novel by Forster on which the film is based, was first published in its homeland only 56 years after it was written.
- The fictional story is based on Forster's personal experiences related to his studies at Cambridge. It was then that Forster first fell in love with his classmate G.O. Meredith, who served as the prototype for the character of Hugh Grant.
- Ivory can be considered the main film adapter of Forster's works. "Maurice" is the third adaptation, following "A Room with a View" and "Howards End."
