What's left behind the scenes

  • The events depicted in the film take place in Montana, however, for financial reasons, the film was shot in the states of Utah and California.
  • Joaquin Phoenix was initially reluctant to accept the role of Clay in this film, believing that the combination of humor and violence he saw in the script would be difficult to portray on screen. However, the actor changed his mind and agreed to star after meeting with the film's future director, David Dobkin.
