What's left behind the scenes
- In preparation for his role, Ferrell spent some time at a police station, observing the daily life of cops.
- During a basketball game, Brooke Shields can be seen sitting next to Ferrell's character. The film's screenwriter, Chris Hensch, is Brooke's husband.
- In one scene, Allen asks Terry how characters in Hollywood movies don't look at explosions. This is a reference to the music video by The Lonely Island, “Cool Guys Don’t Look At Explosions,” which Will Ferrell performed with the group and in which Mark Wahlberg was mentioned.
- In one scene, Allen and Terry drive onto a golf course and are pelted with golf balls, which is a clear reference to the television series “Freaks and Geeks” (2000-2002).
- The role of P.K. Haysmith was originally written for Michael Chiklis, but he turned it down, not wanting to appear on screen again as a cop (Chiklis plays one of the main roles in the series “The Shield” (2002-2008)).
- Director Adam McKay also appears in the film – he played the cameo role of Dirty Mike, the leader of the perverted homeless people.
- Michael Keaton’s character was named after the famous sports manager Gene Mauch, under whose leadership the California Angels baseball team performed successfully in the championships of 1982–1986.
- In the scene where Allen tries to remember a film starring Meg Ryan, he calls it "Her Letter," while the film is actually titled "You've Got Mail" (1998).
- During the filming of the episode where Allen and Terry walk barefoot through the streets of New York, several people captured Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell on their mobile phone cameras.
- Leaving Las Vegas, Allen tells Terry that he "got hooked" on poker and other gambling games. The character's last name is Gamble, a 'talking name' as 'to gamble' in English means 'to play gambling games'.
- As the end credits roll, the viewer is also shown the scale of some major financial pyramids. It is stated that there is an average amount per American citizen sufficient for a trip around the world. Steve Coogan, who played a fraudster in the film, also starred in "Around the World in 80 Days" (2004).
- In one scene of the film, Mark Wahlberg's character jumps onto a table and, sliding across it on his back, fires a gun in a Macedonian style. This is a reference to the film "Max Payne" (2008), where Wahlberg played the main role.
- At the 46th minute, the hero played by Will Ferrell has a gun either in his holster or on the asphalt.
- In one scene, Allen and Terry drove onto a golf course and began to be hit with golf balls, which is a clear reference to the series "Freaks and Geeks" (2000-2002).
