What's left behind the scenes
- The poster that is nailed to the wall at the beginning of the film was actually hanging on the facade of the Stonewall Inn in September 1969. The inscription on the poster read: «We, homosexuals, ask our people to help maintain peaceful and quiet behavior in Greenwich Village whenever possible. Mattachine».
- The song sung by Matty Dean after the rally on the bus is the American patriotic song "Battle Hymn of the Republic," written in honor of abolitionist John Brown, who led a revolt against slavery in the United States in 1859 and was executed for treason.
- The scene in the film where the characters are refused alcohol is inaccurate, as the law prohibiting the sale of alcohol to homosexuals was repealed in 1966, three years before the events depicted in the film. Furthermore, this law was never enforced at the Stonewall Inn.
- The film's character Matty could not have participated in the Mattachine Society picket in front of Independence Hall in Philadelphia, as it took place on July 4, 1969, eight days after the final events of the film.
- It has not been proven that the death of actress Judy Garland was a motivating factor in the Stonewall riots.
