What's left behind the scenes

  • Plans to film a sequel to "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" were announced two days after its release in 2014.
  • Stephen Amell compared the role of Casey Jones to his role as Oliver Queen in the series "Arrow" (2012). "Casey Jones is somewhat reminiscent of Oliver Queen from the older comics," he said.
  • Judith Hoag, who played a cameo role, played April O'Neil in the film "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" (1990). She also appeared in "Armageddon" (1998) directed by Michael Bay.
  • The motto on the battle van reads "Turtle Brothers" ("tartaruga" is Italian for "turtle"). In the animated series "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. New Adventures!" (2003), the motto "Tortuga Brothers" ("tortuga" is Spanish for "turtle") can be read on the second battle van.
  • Professional Irish wrestler Sheamus (real name Stephen Farrelly) played the role of Rocksteady.
  • The film was originally scheduled for release in 2017.
  • Judith Hoag, who played April O'Neil in *Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles* (Steve Barron, 1990), filmed a cameo role, but the scene with her did not make it into the theatrical release.
  • Brad Garrett, who voiced Krang, is friends with Pat Fraley, who provided Krang’s voice in the *Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles* animated series (1987-1996). When Garrett was chosen to voice the character, Fraley wholeheartedly supported his candidacy.
  • Producers offered cameo roles in the film to Elias Koteas (the first actor to play Casey Jones in live-action) and Sam Rockwell (who played the gang leader), but they declined the offer.
  • Shredder's black and grey spiked armor is taken from the *Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fast Forward* animated series (2003-2009).
  • As a child, director Dave Green was a huge fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and wore a Donatello costume.
  • Johnny Knoxville, who voiced Leonardo in Jonathan Liebesman's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" (2014), left the project, and Pete Ploszek had to voice and perform the character (motion capture technology was used to create the computer image of Leonardo).
  • Initially, the words "Half Shell" were included in the film's subtitle. This is a reference to the song about the main characters, "Heroes in a Half Shell".
  • The roles of Splinter, Shredder, and Karai are played by Peter Donald Badalamenti II, Brian Tee, and Brittany Ishibashi. All actors are younger than the previous performers of these roles, Danny Woodburn, Tohoru Masamune, and Mina Noji.
  • Following Chris Evans, who voiced Casey Jones in the full-length animated film "TMNT" (2007), Stephen Amell became the second actor who appeared in television and film projects based on comics to take on the role of Jones. While Amell starred in the television series "Arrow" about a superhero from "DC Comics" (2012), Evans was involved in filming projects based on "Marvel Comics" (and others, but less frequently).
  • Alan Ritchson (who plays Raphael) and Stephen Amell (who plays Casey Jones) previously starred together in the series "Real Boys" (2010-2011). Ritchson played a midfielder on the football team and one of the central characters there, while Amell played a defender, but only in the first season.
  • Fred Armisen was originally slated to voice Krang, but he was unable to due to commitments to other projects, and Krang ended up being voiced by Brad Garrett in the film.
  • Brittany Ishibashi describes herself as a passionate fan of Karai.
  • This is the seventh comic book-based project in actor Gary Anthony Williams' career. Previously, he appeared in "Men in Black" (Barry Sonnenfeld, 1997) and "Ghetto" (Audrius Juzenas, 2005), and voiced characters in the animated films and series "Batman: The Brave and the Bold" (2008-2011), "Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes" (2010-2013), "The Dark Knight Rises - Part 1" and "The Dark Knight Rises - Part 2" (2012 and 2013), as well as "Beware the Batman" (2013-2014).
  • This is the second comic book-based project in the careers of Brian Tee, following the film "The Wolverine" (James Mangold, 2013), and Stephen Amell, following the television series "Arrow" (2012).
  • This is the sixth project based on comics in actor Brad Garrett's career, following the film «Casper» (Brad Silberling, 1995), «Tick Hero» (voice acting in the 1994-1996 animated series), «Superman» (voice acting in the 1996-2000 animated series), «Garfield» (Peter Hewitt, 2004), and «Asterix and the Vikings» (voice acting in the English dub of the 2006 animated feature film).
  • Megan Fox, Alan Ritchson, and Stephen Amell appeared as guest stars in the American comedy television series «New Girl» (2011).
  • Brad Garrett, who voices Krang, appeared in an episode of the television series «Monk» (2002), which starred Tony Shalhoub, whose voice is Splinter in «Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2».
  • This is the fourth time in Brad Garrett's career that he has voiced a character in a film that combines live-action actors with computer graphics. He previously played this role voicing Fats in «Casper» (Brad Silberling, 1995), the Doberman Luca in «Garfield» (Peter Hewitt, 2004), and the Rottweiler named Riff-Raff in «Underdog» (Fredrik Du Chau, 2007).
  • Brad Garrett and Will Arnett starred together in the «Pixar» and «Disney» animated film «Ratatouille» (Brad Bird, 2007).
  • One of the creators of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Kevin Eastman, played a pizza delivery guy in the film.
  • Casey Jones drives a black 2016 "Dodge Hellcat Challenger".
  • At the beginning of the credits, the viewer hears remixes of original music written for the franchise, and the song "Go Ninja Go" by American rapper Vanilla Ice.
  • The license plate of the vehicle reads "Mirage 84". The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles first appeared in comics published by "Mirage" in 1984.
  • The new battle van of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in this film exhibits characteristic features of its predecessors: - the second battle van from the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fast Forward" 2003 animated series (used for surveillance and covert observation), - the van from the 2009 animated film "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Forever" (a converted garbage truck), - the van from the 2012 "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" animated series (with a cannon that shoots manhole covers).
  • Casey Jones is shown for the first time without his traditional hairstyle (short hair on the sides and front, long in the back). Shredder is shown with a beard for the first time – he is usually clean-shaven.
  • Bebop and Rocksteady (the men Shredder mutated into mutants) are depicted as they appear in the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" cartoon (1987-1996), with some details taken from the comics published by "IDW Publishing" (tattoos on both, and a nose ring for Bebop).
  • During the Halloween parade, a person in a Bumblebee costume from the Transformers universe is shown. Megan Fox, producer Michael Bay, cinematographer Alan D. Purwin, and composer Steve Jablonsky all worked on the Transformers films.
  • A chessboard is shown in Baxter Stockman's laboratory. This detail comes from the comics published by "IDW Publishing", where Baxter's father once played chess with him to develop his mental abilities.
  • In the film, Baxter Stockman names his computer "O.M.N.S.S." (pronounced "OMNUS"). In the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" cartoon (1987-1996), Shredder and Baxter Stockman team up with an artificial extraterrestrial intelligence with a similar name to open a portal to the Dimension X. In the case of the alien intelligence, it was an abbreviation for "Omnipotent Multi-process Nexus Subuniversal Sentient".
  • April uses forged documents under the name Renet Tilley, the Timekeeper and ally of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
  • During the truck chase episode, Raphael rides a motorcycle for a time. This is a nod to the animated series "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fast Forward" (2003-2009), in which this character was a skilled motorcyclist.
  • When Krang freezes Shredder and leaves him on the lower levels of the "Technodrome" (a spherical mobile fortress), the viewer can notice a frozen alien there, shaped like a triceratops. This is a Triceraton, a representative of an alien civilization in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe.
  • Casey Jones serves in the police force. This is a tribute to the character known as Nobody, an ally of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles who was a police officer and became a superhero.
  • Plans to film a sequel to 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' were announced two days after its release in 2014.
  • Stephen Amell compared the role of Casey Jones to his role as Oliver Queen from the 'Arrow' series (2012). "Casey Jones is somewhat reminiscent of Oliver Queen from the older comics," he said.
  • Judith Hoag, who played a cameo role, played April O'Neil in the 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' film (1990). She also appeared in 'Armageddon' (1998) directed by Michael Bay.
  • The motto on the battle van reads 'Turtle Brothers' ('tartaruga' is 'turtle' in Italian). In the animated series 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. New Adventures!' (2003), the motto 'Tortuga Brothers' ('tortuga' is 'turtle' in Spanish) can be read on the second battle van.
  • Judith Hoag, who played April O'Neil in "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" (Steve Barron, 1990), filmed a cameo role, but the scene with her did not make it into the theatrical release.

  • Shredder's black and gray spiky armor is taken from the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. New Adventures!" animated series (2003-2009).
  • Johnny Knoxville, who voiced Leonardo in Jonathan Liebesman's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" (2014), left the project, and Pete Ploszek had to both voice and perform the character (motion capture technology was used to create Leonardo's computer image).
  • The film initially had the subtitle "Half Shell". This is a reference to the song about the main characters, "Heroes in Half Shells".

  • Alan Ritchson (playing Raphael) and Stephen Amell (playing Casey Jones) both appeared in the series "Kid vs. Kat" (2010-2011). Ritchson played a soccer player and one of the central characters there, while Amell played a defender, and only in the first season.
  • This is the seventh project based on comics in the career of actor Gary Anthony Williams. • This is the second project based on comics in the careers of actors Brian Tee after the film "The Wolverine" (James Mangold, 2013) and Stephen Amell after the television series "Arrow" (2012).
  • This is the sixth project based on comics in the career of actor Brad Garrett after the film "Casper" (Brad Silberling, 1995), "The Tick" (voice acting in the animated series 1994-1996), "Superman" (voice acting in the animated series 1996-2000), "Garfield" (Peter Hewitt, 2004), and "Asterix and the Vikings" (voice acting in the English dub of the animated feature film, 2006).
  • Brad Garrett, who voices Krang, appeared in one episode of the television series "Defective Detectives" (2002), starring Tony Shalhoub, whose voice is Splinter in "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2".
  • This is the fourth time in Brad Garrett’s career that he has voiced a character in a film combining live-action actors with computer graphics. He previously performed this role voicing Fats in "Casper" (Brad Silberling, 1995), the Doberman Luka in "Garfield" (Peter Hewitt, 2004), and the Rottweiler named Riff-Raff in "Underdog" (Fredrik Du Chau, 2007).
