What's left behind the scenes

  • This film is not related to the Hammer studio's six-film series about Frankenstein with Peter Cushing as Doctor Frankenstein. It is essentially a remake of 'The Curse of Frankenstein' (1957).
  • The screenwriter, producer, and director, Jimmy Sangster, was initially invited to the project simply to review the original script by Jeremy Burnham and make changes if necessary. After reading the script, Sangster realized it was very similar to the screenplay for 'The Curse of Frankenstein' (1957), which he himself had written. Not wanting to film the same movie twice, he decided to add humor and sex to the script. Ultimately, Hammer Studios agreed to let him direct the project.
  • The first Hammer film to be fully financed by British funds.
  • This is Joan Rice's last film.
  • David Prowse previously played the Frankenstein monster in the film "Casino Royale" (1967).
  • When the monster first leaves the castle, he rips the door lock off. Shortly afterwards, the lock is back in place.
  • When Victor circles the number 4 on the diagram, the number 19 is visible. But when the camera pulls back, the number 19 turns out to be hidden on the diagram.
  • This film is not related to the six-film series produced by Hammer Studios about Frankenstein, starring Peter Cushing as Dr. Frankenstein. It is essentially a remake of "The Curse of Frankenstein" (1957).
