What's left behind the scenes

  • After filming at San Quentin State Prison in California, actor Mickey Rooney (1920-2014) received a commemorative plaque from the inmates with an engraved message thanking him for being a good person.
  • Inmates of San Quentin State Prison served as supporting actors and extras, and their participation in the filming was compensated.
  • During the filming of a car crash, operator Fred J. Konekamp (1922-2017) was injured when he was hit by a car door that was speeding towards actress Candice Bergen. Fortunately, the impact to his eye was cushioned by the rubber rim around the camera lens, but Konekamp still suffered a concussion, required stitches, and was replaced as operator by Ernest Laszlo (1898-1984).
