What's left behind the scenes
- This is a film adaptation of the bestseller "Fifty Shades Darker" by E.L. James and the second part of the film "Fifty Shades of Grey", also based on James' novel. The third book in the series is called "Fifty Shades Freed", and the film based on it was filmed concurrently with the second part.
- Before the project began, fans of the saga suggested that the role of Elena Lincoln, Christian Grey's former lover, would suit Kim Cattrall, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Charlize Theron. Ultimately, Kim Basinger played the part.
- After the release of the first film, producers noticed that many considered Jamie Dornan's clean-shaven face not sexy enough for his character, so in the second and third films, Christian Grey grew stubble.
- In March 2015, director Sam Taylor-Johnson and screenwriter Kelly Marcel, who worked on the first part, announced that they would not take on the second and third films due to a conflict with the author.
- Filming took place in Paris and Vancouver.
- Rebecca Thomas, Mark Pellinton, and Tanya Wexler were also candidates for the director's chair.
- Henry Cavill was considered for the role of Jack Hyde, Anastasia's boss.
- During filming, the project was known under the code name 'Further Adventures of Max and Banks'.
- Filming in Nice, France, coincided with the terrorist attack on July 14th.
