What's left behind the scenes

  • Initially, the film was not completed because Solar Films ran out of money. In 1978, when Jackie Chan became popular, material from 'Drunken Master' (1978) was added to the unfinished film, and the final duel scene was reshot with a stunt double, whose face was hidden with an eye patch and using a minimum of close-ups.
  • The original 'Tiger from Canton' (without the scenes with Lo Wai) was released on DVD in Japan. The extended version is available on DVD in Japan under the title Cub Tiger From Kwang Tung.
  • The re-edited version of the film, released in 1981, contains additional footage of Yuan Xiaotian's fight with the landlord.
  • During the fight scene between the poor man and the landlord, some music was taken from the 'Popeye the Sailor' (1960-1963) television series.
  • In some scenes, Jackie Chan's hair is longer than in other episodes.
  • In the scene at the landlord's palace, a fat man can be seen getting burned nine times. Later in the film, the same fat man fights Jackie Chan, but he has no scars or burns.
  • During the fight with blindfolds, Jackie Chan's blindfold appears transparent.
  • When the gang discusses how to get revenge on Moon, a large (electric) chandelier with 4 bulbs can be seen on the ceiling, and a light switch on the wall.
