What's left behind the scenes

  • Sing Street is a kind of tribute to the film The Commitments (1991). There are obvious similarities: both films are built around the formation of a musical band in Dublin around the same time, and Maria Doyle Kennedy starred in both. A less obvious reference is Eamon’s love for rabbits, while the main character of The Commitments was named Jimmy Rabbitte (from English 'rabbit').
  • The film premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.
  • Mark McKenna plays a young, talented Irishman named Eamon, whose father is a musician. In real life, Mark McKenna’s father is also named Eamon and is a musician.
  • The father and uncle of Ferdia Walsh-Peelo (Cosmo) attended the real Christian Brothers School Sing Street.
  • Jack Leach auditioned for one of the main roles in the film.
  • In the film, the protagonist's friend supports two football teams: Shamrock Rovers from his hometown of Dublin and Liverpool.
