What's left behind the scenes

  • In real life, Elsa Lanchester, who played the unbearable "nurse" to lawyer Sir Wilfrid (Charles Laughton), was his wife.
  • At the end of the film, a voiceover informed viewers: "The management of this cinema assumes that for the desired effect, you will not reveal the secret ending of the film 'Witness for the Prosecution' to your friends who have not yet seen it." This was done in accordance with the film's advertising campaign. The finale was kept secret during filming as well. Billy Wilder did not give the actors the last ten pages of the script until it was time to shoot those scenes.
  • Alfred Hitchcock said: "Many times people have told me how much they enjoyed the film 'Witness for the Prosecution.' They thought I directed it. And Wilder said that he was told the same thing about 'The Paradine Case,' thinking it was his film."
  • After the release of the film, Agatha Christie said that it was the only film based on her book that she truly liked. Later, after the release of 'Murder on the Orient Express,' she said that she also enjoyed that film.
