What's left behind the scenes
- Nicole Kidman was supposed to get the lead role but declined. Carrie-Anne Moss was considered as a replacement, but ultimately the role went to Lucy Punch.
- All scenes with Anna Friel were filmed in one day.
- Monique Alfradique auditioned for the role but did not get it.
- All scenes with Celia Imrie were filmed in a day. She said she agreed to even such a small role simply because Woody Allen is a true legend. However, her scenes with Anthony Hopkins did not make it into the final cut of the film.
- The line Roy says to the gallery owner's assistant (“A lot depends on the red car glazed with rainwater next to the white chickens”) is actually a poem by William Carlos Williams.
- This is the first feature film directed by Woody Allen that was not produced by Charles H. Joffe. Joffe, who had worked with Allen for almost 40 years, died in July 2008.
- During lunch with Helena, a napkin lies before Alfy (Anthony Hopkins). He unfolds it, and in the next frame it is perfectly folded again.
- When Ray (Theo James) gives Charmaine a foot massage, the position of his hands changes instantly from shot to shot.
- It is raining heavily when Ray picks up Dee for lunch, but when they are at the apartment building, everything is dry.
