What's left behind the scenes

  • Director Oz Perkins included several references to his father, singer and actor Anthony Perkins (1932-1992) in the film – this includes the song “You keep coming back like a song,” which he performed, and William Wyler’s (1902-1981) war drama “Friendly Persuasion” (1956), in which he starred.
  • In one of the scenes at the beginning of the film, Iris’s bookshelf, played by Paula Prentiss, is shown, and the book furthest to the right on it is “The Lady in the Wall.” Lily, the main character played by Ruth Wilson, repeatedly mentions this book throughout the film. It was written by Paula Prentiss’s character and is set in the early 19th century. It tells the story of Polly, a young bride who suffered some terrible fate. The very first line spoken in the film is almost identical to the first line of the book, indicating a connection between Polly and Lily. Throughout the film, Iris calls Lily by the name Polly.
  • Director Osgoode Perkins included several references to his father, singer and actor Anthony Perkins, in the film – this includes the song “You Keep Coming Back Like a Song,” which he performed, and the play *Friendly Persuasion*, in which he starred.
