What's left behind the scenes
- Corvin Castle in Transylvania, one of the largest medieval castles in Europe, was used as the setting for Count Orlok's castle. Vlad the Impaler was held prisoner there for some time.
- Bill Skarsgård specifically worked with a linguist to lower his voice by an octave.
- Night scenes were filmed during the day, and then red and yellow colors were removed from the image.
- Bill Skarsgård was initially cast as Thomas Hatter.
- Harry Styles and Anya Taylor-Joy were initially considered for the lead roles, but Styles declined due to commitments to other projects. Then filming was delayed, and Taylor-Joy left as she was filming the action movie 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga' at the time.
- Director and screenwriter Robert Eggers said that the appearance of Count Orlok was deliberately made to look "more like a vampire than they are shown in movies" and more in line with old images and tales. To achieve this, the culture of Orlok's homeland was specifically studied, where a mustache was an essential attribute of a man.
- Preparing for the filming of difficult scenes in which her character is tormented by Count Orlok, Lily-Rose Depp, on the advice of Robert Eggers, began practicing special dances, such as butoh.
- Bill Skarsgård was initially worried about how his character would look in makeup with numerous special prosthetics, and whether he would be able to act properly in this guise.
