What's left behind the scenes

  • The first short version, titled “Bring on the Dancing Girls,” was completed in 1965 and contained sketches from the life of Jay A. and his friends. In 1967, a plotline with the Girl emerged, and the title was changed to “I Call First.” This version was presented at the Chicago International Film Festival in November of that year. In 1968, the film was finally agreed to be purchased and distributed on the condition that sexually explicit scenes be added. The director agreed and shot several minutes of footage with a noticeably older Keitel. It was then that the film received its final title, “Who’s That Knocking at My Door.”
