What's left behind the scenes
- The vampires in the film speak a language specifically developed with the help of a linguistics professor from one of New Zealand's universities.
- The film was shot in New Zealand. Almost half of the actors involved are New Zealanders or Australians.
- Josh Hartnett performed the stunts himself, without using stunt doubles.
- Practically all the night scenes were shot during the day.
- In the original script, the Stranger and the grandmother were supposed to die. The episodes where Eben and Stella find the Stranger, and where Marlowe returns to him, were invented and added during filming. These episodes were squeezed into the shooting schedule, even though everyone understood that they were unlikely to make it into the final version of the film.
- Filming took place from August 14 to October 23, 2006.
